Designed In Design Space

Design space allows for quick and easy editing and creation of any design(s). The first step is to make a flower template. Using design space it’s easy to merge heart and circle or oval shapes together to make a petal shape. Each petal required a slit in the bottom of the center. Feel free to use the pictures below to import into design space. After making one petal subsequent petals were made by duplicating the design and resizing the petals until there were 5 different petal sizes. Though only 4 sizes were used in the video.

10 inch tall and 6.5 inch tall petals

The petals were cut out using the Cricut Maker. They can be cut by hand using the pictures above an below as templates. Each large flower requires 6 petals in each size, for a total of 30 petals. The largest petal is 10 inches tall, followed by petals that were 6.5 inches, 5.25 inches, 4 inches, and 3 inches tall. The center piece is a Cricut flower center from a sakura flower available on Cricut.

Cut Out With The Cricut Maker

I LOVE the Cricut Maker.  The maker quickly and easily cut the design out of cardstock. Cutting the design by hand is definitely possible. I just know that I don’t possess the steady hand to cut out so many petals with the necessary precision to make the resulting flower look decent.

Cardstock versus Paper

This project was made using cardstock material. Cardstock is thicker and more durable than paper. It’s possible to make these flowers with plain paper, I just wanted them to last. Now a year out from their creation, the flowers are still beautiful and look great as decorations in my daughter’s room. When buying cardstock it is highly recommended to price compare to get the best quality and price for all materials. Cricut brand cardstock is very good quality material, like all of their products, but it is definitely pricier. I recommend waiting for big sales to buy Cricut brand, like currently materials are 40% OFF. Alternatively cardstock is available on Amazon, or even very affordably at Walmart or Target. Remember to do test cuts before cutting on alternative non-Cricut brands because settings may be slightly different.

Curling the Petals

First curl the top edges of the petals using a pen or pencil. One side was curled up and the other side was curled down.

Glue the Bottom Slit

The two edges of the bottom slit were glued together. The edges were overlapped just slightly.

Glue Petals and Layers Together

Once each petal is complete then each layer of 6 petals is hot glued together. It should take 3 petals to complete each half of every layer. The center will form a hexagon shape in the middle. Petals should be layered in the same direction and manner. This means the same edge of each petal should be upward.

Flower Center

A different color flower center may then be added for a nice color contrast. This center represents stamens in a circular shape and pattern. It was cut with the Cricut Maker.

Add to a Unicorn or Backdrop

Use the flowers to make wall decorations. The extra large flowers make good wedding backdrops or can easily be added to unicorns. They are beautiful by themselves or with other design elements.
