Supplies

Essential Supplies

Non-Essential Supplies that Make it Easier

Remember to always work with epoxy in a well ventilated area.

Glitter Epoxy Layer

  1. Set up the water bottle in the Spin It (or cup turner) so it is attached well and spins symmetrically.
  2. Add 10 mL part A plus 10 mL part B of the epoxy and stir slowly until mixed well.
  3. Then add 10 mL fine glitter to the epoxy mixture and stir slowly until mixed well.
  4. Pour glitter epoxy mixture onto the water bottle as it’s spinning using gloved fingers to smooth and spread out the epoxy.
  5. Let spin overnight for at least 8 hours
  6. Complete curing and setting of the epoxy may take up to 24 hours depending on the moisture and humidity in the air.

Glitter Vinyl Design

Designed In Design Space

This was a super cute design made using elements from various sources. The name was made with a font from dafont.com. Choose a favorite font and whatever saying you desire. The Unicorn is from Love SVG for FREE. The layout was made in Design Space.  I adore the FREE SVG files on Love SVG.  The designs are free for personal use (make and give, NOT sell). A commercial license can be purchased for a reasonable price for items intended to be sold.  Definitely recommend checking them out if you haven’t done so already.

Cut Out With The Cricut Maker

I LOVE the Cricut Maker.  The maker quickly and easily cut the unicorn design out of glitter vinyl material.  The unwanted excess material was removed or also known as “weeded.”

Cricut Maker Machine

Adhesive Glitter Vinyl

For this project, the glitter adhesive vinyl was all Cricut brand. I highly recommend that people price compare to get the best quality and price for all materials, and especially for adhesive vinyl. The Cricut adhesive vinyl was purchased directly from Cricut during a sale. Amazon also has multiple options as well. Favorite non-Cricut brands include Siser and Oracal. Remember to do test cuts before cutting the design because settings may be slightly different for alternative brands.

Transfer Tape Application

Transfer tape was applied to the top of the design. It was burnished (rubbed down) so the vinyl would stick onto the transfer tape. The paper backing was removed and the vinyl was then rubbed onto the water bottle. The transfer tape was removed slowly at a 90 degree angle off the vinyl, leaving it behind on the glitter sign.

Clear Epoxy Sealing Layer

  1. This last clear epoxy layer is optional, but really seals the vinyl in and will prevent any peeling or damage to the vinyl.
  2. Once again set up the water bottle in the Spin It (or cup turner) so it is attached well and spins symmetrically.
  3. Add 10 mL part A plus 10 mL part B of the epoxy and stir slowly until mixed well.
  4. Pour the clear epoxy mixture onto the water bottle as it’s spinning using gloved fingers to smooth and spread out the epoxy.
  5. Let spin overnight for at least 8 hours
  6. Complete curing and setting of the epoxy may take up to 24 hours depending on the moisture and humidity in the air.

I hope this article inspired you to try making your own glitter epoxy tumbler. The process is easy, just time consuming because of how long it takes for the epoxy to completely cure and set.
