Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts Moms Want

Have you procrastinated and now it’s actually Mother’s Day and a gift for Mom is nowhere in sight?  Have no fear.  Here’s a list of 5 super easy last-minute Mother’s Day gifts you can make, buy, or just do for mom on Mother’s Day that she’ll love.  Some of these suggestions may make people cry with laughter.  Many options on the list were requested and suggested by real-life moms.

Last Minute Mother’s Day Gifts

  1. Let Mom Sleep In
  2. Alone Time
  3. No Fighting
  4. Cooked Meal of Choice
  5. Gift Card and Time to Spend/Use it

1.  Let Mom Sleep In

It sounds so simple.  But, sleeping in is NOT a simple thing for a mother.  Just ask any mother.  Personally, the last time I slept in past 06:30 was almost 8 years ago, before my first child was born.  My children are usually up by 05:30, 06:00 am at the latest.  My wonderful family even suggested a nice breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day, but that would mean that they would come in early to wake me up with the breakfast in bed and I politely asked for allowing me to sleep in instead of the meal.  Yes, sleeping in would be a bigger treat than breakfast in bed.

After polling several other mothers, there is a consensus that sleep is one the most precious things that mothers do not get enough of.  In the morning, mothers make breakfasts, get kids dressed and ready, all while combating any squabbles.  Therefore, a nice break from that would be getting all of the morning chaos (if mornings are anything like mine) done without mom for just one day out of the whole year.  So, stick on a home-made DO NOT DISTURB sign that can also serve as a card on mom’s bedroom door and let mom sleep in for an awesome last-minute Mother’s Day gift.  These are some other ideas as seen on Etsy to go along with mom’s gift of sleeping in.  They all can be made by hand with a Sharpie or with a Cricut cutting machine.

And don’t worry if Mother’s Day morning has already come and gone without bestowing this fantastic FREE gift.  This is a gift that works any day for any reason just to say thank you to mom, just because.

2.  Alone Time

Mothers cater to the needs of their families 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For me, it’s dedicating every minute not at work to being the best (and often imperfect) mother and wife that I can be.  Mothers cook, clean, and wash, in addition to being superwoman and a Ninja.  Mothers get frustrated, exacerbated, and plain angry.  Being a stay at home mom is like having 2.5 full time jobs.  But, our greatest blessing is being a mother.  As much as mothers love their children, one of the best Mother’s Day gifts is a little alone time.  Alone time to read a book, binge watch some Netflix, do arts and crafts, take a nap, or even as one mother told me, some undisturbed alone time in the bathroom without hearing “MOMMY!”

Below are some ideas for gifts as seen on Etsy that would go along nicely with the present of alone time for mom.

3.  No Fighting

A no fighting agreement is a fantastic idea from the kids as well as from significant others.  Put it in writing that for Mother’s Day there is a cease-fire from and between kids and significant others.  Some of the FREE printable coupon books listed in the Best Mother’s Day Gift Ideas Articles can be made with a NO FIGHTING coupon.  I asked for no fighting on my birthday and my kids were able to do it for about 5 minutes before they were arguing again.

Etsy has some hilarious signs that can be made DIY style with a NO FIGHTING theme.  Even a simple typed sign, like the one below works well on short notice.

4.  Cooked Meal of Choice

It is amazing for any mother to have a meal of their choice made, eaten, and cleaned up without their own manual labor involved.  Most mothers cannot remember a nice meal at home that they didn’t cook, serve, or clean up after (if not all 3).  Of course if mom likes eating out at a particular restaurant then by all means, a nice meal at her favorite restaurant would be a wonderful and thoughtful last-minute gift as well.  A restaurant meal will still allow some quality mom time.  But, restaurants may cost quite a bit of money, depending on how expensive mom’s tastes run.  The meals below are from Wrangler’s Restaurant on Kauai, one of my Mother’s and Grandmother’s favorite restaurants.  Wrangler’s is having a fabulous Mother’s Day brunch and you can check out their Facebook page here.

For Mother’s Day my husband asked what I wanted and I requested a home cooked meal of cream of broccoli soup and sandwiches, lunch of course, so that I could be allowed to sleep in.  It sounds simple, but cream of broccoli soup is kind of labor intensive, so a little cheating with some store-bought soup will probably have to happen.

5.  Gift Card and Time to Spend/Use it

Last, but not least, on the list for Last Minute Mother’s Day gifts is a gift card.  Definitely a gift card with a little thought is nice.  But, Amazon provides online printable gift cards for the truly last-minute giver.  Which mom wouldn’t love, appreciate, and be able to use an Amazon gift card.  Other gift card ideas would be dependent on what mom loves. Think of a favorite restaurant, store, or hobby and center the gift card around that.  Another nice option would be a gift card for a specific service.  Think gift cards for massages, hair cuts, manicures, or pedicures.

Of course a bonus component to giving a gift card would be providing for time to spend or use the gift card.  Coordination of time can be arranged for another day or on Mother’s Day itself.

Hopefully this list of mostly FREE super last-minute Mother’s Day Gifts is helpful for all those procrastinators out there like me.  Please let me know if you have any questions and I’d love to hear any last-minute gift ideas that you have as well.
