Thank You Mom!

I personally want to take this opportunity to say thank you to my super amazing mother.  She has loved, supported, and nurtured me with an undying steadfast devotion for my entire life.  I am so grateful for all you have done and continue to do for me.  Thank you for taking care of me, my kids, and the entire family.  I also really appreciate my grandmother, who continues to be a source of support and love, despite her growing a little forgetful (she always remembers me).

To all the mothers out there, thank you for everyday that you work, sometimes struggle, love, and care for your children.  Being a mother is the greatest blessing and the hardest, most important job that any mother does.  You are loved and appreciated for the kisses, hugs, tough love, late nights, and sacrifices that often go underappreciated and unnoticed.

1. Cricut

Having kids means making things.  School projects, presentations, teachers gifts, birthday presents, and the list goes on and on.  The Cricut helps mom’s everywhere with less time do more crafting.  Believe me, I LOVE my Cricut.  I love it so much that I bought the newest Cricut machine, the Cricut Maker, and gave my mother my Cricut Explore Air.  My mother is a crafter, so the Cricut Explore Air was perfect for her, and for Mother’s Day I got her a Cricut how-to book and Cricut cutting materials.  The perfect example for kids Cricut projects is the family tree my daughter made for school below, which we used the Cricut to cut the leaves and flowers.  See my other DIY articles for all the other ways I use my Cricut and read about the differences between the machines here.

If your crafty mom already has a Cricut or some other cutting machine then consider getting them supplies for their machine. Examples are adhesive vinyl, iron-on, fabric, washi tape/sheets or other materials that they can craft with.  More supplies to feed hobby material hoarding is always welcome.

2. Personalized Vinyl Gifts

Making a personalized gift is easy with iron-on heat transfer vinyl or adhesive vinyl.  Cut designs, patterns, and names by hand or with an electronic cutting machine (like the Cricut) and adhere or iron-on.  My preference lately has been iron-on. It’s easy to do with a home iron set on high (with no steam).

Cricut sells vinyl as above, and is cheapest when bought in bulk.  Amazon has lots of adhesive and heat transfer (iron-on) vinyl options with FREE Prime delivery as well.

3.  Spa Day

A nice high-end gift would be buying a gift certificate for an actual spa day, complete with massage.  A Spa Day can be done low-budget as well by doing an at home spa day.  Arrange for the kids to be watched and provide all the goodies necessary to take a nice long tub soak with some fancy scrubs and lotions.  For my birthday this year my daughter gave me a facial, manicure, and a foot massage.  It was a very thoughtful and sweet gift that was much appreciated.

These are recipes for some easy and cheap DIY spa beauty products with a full list of 39 DIY scrubs and lotions found on The Country Chic Cottage.  I picked out the easiest recipes of the bunch.  Mix ingredients together in a bowl with a spoon and place into a glass jar with a cute label.  Viola!  The spa beauty products are ready for gift giving.

4.  Jewelry

Jewelry is a wonderful option for giving any woman when done thoughtfully.  Because the gift is for Mother’s Day, personalized mom jewelry works well.  Mom jewelry incorporates some aspect of motherhood or children.

Metal or leather stamping is a nice DIY option.  Kits can be found affordably on Amazon.  The Cricut also cuts wood and leather and there are ready to make leather jewelry patterns available versus making a design of your own.  Really anything hand-made will be loved by mom.

Lack of any jewelry making skills, like myself?  Check out Etsy’s wide variety of mom jewelry for sale with shipping and delivery in time for Mother’s Day.

For unique handmade on Kauai jewelry check out the beautiful stuff made by my best friend, who sells Sea Blossom Hawaii jewelry as in the picture below.  I’ve given her one of a kind handmade and unique jewelry to friends and family for years.  Her gorgeous earrings, bangles, and necklaces are sold at Deja Vu Surf shop on Kauai or you can snag her stuff through her Etsy store here.

5.  Flowers

I love getting flowers and I’m often spoiled by my husband who will occasionally buy me flowers just because.  Real flowers can get a little pricey.  Another DIY option is to make paper flowers.  Cricut cutting machines simplify flower making with ready to cut patterns with beautiful results.

Gorgeous paper flower bouquets are also available on Etsy.

6.  Coupon Book

Make or purchase a simple coupon book for mom for redemption of services.  Examples for coupons would include a back rub, toilet cleaning, 1 hour quiet time, breakfast in bed, etc.  This gift is super easy to DIY.  Here are some free printable options and Amazon also sells them ready-made.

7.  A Good Book

No matter what mom’s tastes are, chances are good that there is a book just right for her.  Whether a romance novel or non-fiction arts and crafts there are books to suit every taste and need.  Books are also a great last-minute gift because electronic books are instant as long as Mom as the free Kindle app on her smart phone or tablet.  Pick a category that mom likes and get great recommendations directly from Amazon.  There’s guaranteed to be a book just right for her that also fits into every budget.  Getting mom a book also means arranging some quiet solitary reading time too.

8.  Card

Nothing beats the classic Mother’s Day Card.  Cards keep on getting more creative and the possibilities are endless.  But, chances are mom will love it just because you got it or made it.  This is a great gift to DIY and mothers everywhere can agree that a handmade card is often more precious because of the effort put into making them.  I recommend taking a look at Pinterest for ideas.  If you’ve got a Cricut cutting machine then they have tons of ready to make options all set to go.

9.  House Cleaning

The ultimate gift for any mother is getting their house cleaned, by someone other than themselves.  My mother cleaned my home for my birthday this year from top to bottom and it was awesome!  Seriously consider giving your mother a late spring deep cleaning this year.  If you’re strapped for time then check out Amazon Services for housecleaning that is guaranteed with a local, licensed, and bonded company.

10.  Instant Camera or Printer

Capturing memories are a must for mothers and grandmas everywhere.  To help facilitate the capturing and immortalizing of memories I bought my mother a Instax camera.  It’s in the newer line of instant cameras.  Another good option would be a small portable instant printer so then pictures can be printed instantly from a smart phone.

Meaningful Gifts

No matter what the gift, the most important thing is that the gift comes from the heart.  When the gift is bought with mom in mind then it automatically becomes special.  Hope Mother’s Day is amazing!  Let me know if you have questions or comments.
