Designed In Design Space
Design space allows for quick and easy creation and editing of any design. The fonts used for this project are FREE for personal use from dafont.com and they are called Shine and Star Jedi Outline. The personalization was simple with the team name. The fancy tail was hand drawn and added to the team name. In design space words need to have their letter spaces decreased so they overlap and then welded to get them attached as a continuous scripted word.
Cut Out With My Cricut
Use an electronic cutting machine to cut out the design. The design can be cut out by hand out of heat transfer material (iron on), though it is tedious and I recommend an electronic cutter. I have and LOVE the Cricut maker. The maker quickly and easily cut the words out of white and black iron-on (heat transfer vinyl – HTV) material. Unwanted excess material was subsequently removed, or also known as “weeded.” See my Cricut maker review here.
Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
For this project, the heat transfer vinyl (iron on) was all Cricut brand. I highly recommend that people price compare to get the best quality and price for all materials. The Cricut heat transfer (iron on) vinyl was purchased directly from Cricut during a big sale. Amazon also has multiple options as well, like the glitter HTV variety pack. Favorite non-Cricut brands include Siser and Oracal. Remember to do test cuts before cutting the design because settings may be slightly different for alternative brands.
There is also plain heat transfer iron-on from AliExpress. Plain heat transfer vinyl is normally $3.87, and is often on SALE for $1.99. Just remember that purchases from AliExpress come directly from China, so it’s necessary to allow for longer shipping times. AliExpress is similar to Wish, but AliExpress has items that ship for FREE, like this one.
Mesh Jerseys
Th Jerseys used for this project were bought off Amazon with FREE shipping. The process and settings would be the same for Mesh material on bags on well.
Mesh Jersey Iron On With The Easy Press
Ironing on the design was super simple and was done easily as seen in the YouTube video above. Using the Easy Press at 330 degrees, the HTV design was laid out directly on top of the mesh jersey and ironed on initially for 15 seconds with a teflon sheet between to protect both the heat press and the project. To fully set and adhere the HTV a final press was done after the adhesive backing was removed for 15 seconds. Team name was placed in the front and numbers in the back.
Completed Iron On HTV Mesh Jerseys
HTV (heat transfer vinyl) worked EXCELLENT on Mesh Jerseys.
After adhering the personalized team names and numbers, the mesh jerseys are done and ready to be used. These Mesh Jerseys were custom made for the dodgeball team below and they WON for best dressed team in the whole competition. Hope this step-by-step article was helpful and that you are now inspired to go out and create your own athletic mesh jerseys. Change the design and the colors and make it uniquely yours.
