Spiderman Invitation

Spiderman Invitation

We had a small family birthday party for my son this year, but I tried to still make it special for him with some little embellishments.  Specifically, a Spiderman birthday party was requested and the theme started out with a Spiderman invitation.  I whipped these up with my Cricut in my usual minimalist style.  It was especially great to see how the embellishments I made were reused to make birthday cards from guests.  The crafty recycled cards made by my Aunty and Mom also provide more wonderful card ideas for any Spiderman enthusiasts.  Hopefully this post will inspire you to DIY your own Spiderman invitation and cards as well.

Steps:

  1. Print then cut Spiderman
  2. Cut spider webs
  3. Glue together onto printed card

Print then Cut Spiderman

I found a Spiderman picture on the web that I then made into a print then cut file on the Cricut.  You could very easily print Spiderman pictures off the internet and cut them out by hand as well.  It was just a lot faster and easy to let my machine do the work.

Cut Spider Webs

The spiderweb was found online with a google search as well.  The Cricut can take any image and turn it into a cut file.  This allowed very quick reproduction of exactly the same spiderwebs in a large desired quantity.  People without the Cricut could cut out webs by hand, or a more time-saving method of making spiderwebs for Spiderman would be to draw them in using a thick pen.

Glue Together on Printed Card

The cards were first printed on white card-stock.  The writing was centered and 2 cards were produced per 8.5″ by 11″ page.  The card was 8.5″ x 5.5″ before folding.  After scoring and creasing the cards into a trifold pattern the webs and Spidermen were glued onto the front of the card.  I added some extra sticking power and protection by adding a couple of pieces of strong double-sided tape.

Recycled Spiderman Invitation

One of the really wonderful things that I’ve seen is when people have recycled party invitations to make the actual birthday card in return.  Recycling the invitation allows the birthday card’s theme and colors match perfectly.  This Spiderman invitation resulted in 2 clever and cute birthday cards in return.

The birthday card above was made by my mom.  I love the cute tiny crystals she added to the web.

The second card was made by my very crafty Aunty.  It’s so clever how she added a 3D effect with thread and attached it to his web slinging hand.

Pin Spiderman on his Web

I also recycled the leftover Spidermen and webs by making them into a game similar to pin the tail on the donkey.  I drew a web with a bullseye in the center and had the kids spin around prior to taking turns pinning their Spiderman and web onto the larger web.

Spiderman Favors

I got all the Spiderman themed favors for my son’s birthday from AliExpress.  On his actual birthday his classmates got superhero Lego-like figurines, Spiderman stickers, and Spiderman balloon wristlets.  The birthday favors were the same, plus a Spiderman drawstring bag.

Please just keep in mind the longer shipping times when purchasing from AliExpress as their products usually are coming directly from China and can take up to 6-8 weeks to arrive.  In my personal experience it does not take that long, usually 2-3 weeks.
