I LOVE my Cricut Joy. It’s the super cute baby Yoda of the Cricut World and it cuts a large variety of materials, like vinyl, paper, and faux leather. Faux leather comes in a huge array of colors and styles for unlimited options to make jewelry. Earrings are one of the cutest, quickest, and easiest things you can make.

Step 1

Cut down your faux leather to exactly the same width as the Cricut Joy mat 4.5 inches. Apply the leather face down onto the mat and adhere with masking tape to all 4 sides.

Step 2

After clicking “Make it,” Design Space will ask, “How will you load all your materials for this project?” Choose “On Mat.” This choice also has the designation “For any material.” Review the layout, and move objects using the circle with the three dots to conserve faux leather material. When satisfied with the layout, click “Continue.”

Step 3

Insert the mat with the faux leather into the Cricut Joy, which will automatically align the mat and ensure that there is enough material for the design.

Step 4

Click “Go,” and let the Joy cut out the design. After completion, click “Unload.” Weed the leather. Use a tool to get out stubborn bfs of leather left behind.

Step 5

Attach earring hooks using pliers or tweezers. Open the ring and close securely.

All Smart materials are designed to be cut without a mat in the Cricut Joy. Materials with thicker backing would be best to trial for mat-less cutting as above.
