Crafting at Midnight Personalized Pleather and Canvas Bags
Crafting at midnight personalized pleather and canvas bags made an easy, last minute gift for my kids’ teachers. These bags were color coordinated and so cute when done as a personalized gift. See how to make this quick, cute, and easy Cricut craft using heat transfer (iron-on) vinyl.

Designed In Design Space
Design space allows for quick and easy creation and editing of any design. The font used for this project is FREE for personal use from dafont.com and is called Magnolia Sky. The personalization was simple with names. In design space names need to have the letter spaces decreased and then welded to get them attached as a continuous scripted word. Another great idea for personalization is to use monograms. For monograms dafont.com has a FREE font called Monogram kk. Unfortunately for this project not all middle names were known for the recipients.
Cut Out With My Cricut
Use an electronic cutting machine to cut out the design. The design can be cut out by hand out of heat transfer material (iron on), though there are some pretty intricate cuts in the image and the wording that would be best cut from an electronic cutter. I have and LOVE the Cricut maker. The maker quickly and easily cut the words out of adhesive vinyl and glitter gold and green iron-on (heat transfer vinyl – HTV) material. Unwanted excess material was subsequently removed, or also known as “weeded.” See my Cricut maker review here.
Heat Transfer Vinyl (HTV)
For this project, the heat transfer vinyl (iron on) was all Cricut brand. I highly recommend that people price compare to get the best quality and price for all materials. The Cricut heat transfer (iron on) vinyl was purchased directly from Cricut during a big sale. Amazon also has multiple options as well, like the glitter HTV variety pack. Favorite non-Cricut brands include Siser and Oracal. Remember to do test cuts before cutting the design because settings may be slightly different for alternative brands.
There is also plain heat transfer iron-on from AliExpress. Plain heat transfer vinyl is normally $3.87, and is often on SALE for $1.99. Just remember that purchases from AliExpress come directly from China, so it’s necessary to allow for longer shipping times. AliExpress is similar to Wish, but AliExpress has items that ship for FREE, like this one.
Canvas Iron On With The Easy Press
Ironing on the design was super simple and was done easily as seen in the YouTube video above. Using the Easy Press at 330 degrees, the HTV design was laid out directly on top of the canvas bags and ironed on initially for 15 seconds with a teflon sheet between to protect both the heat press and the project. To fully set and adhere the HTV a final press was done after the adhesive backing was removed for 15 seconds.
Pleather Iron On With The Easy Press
The biggest difference for pleather is to decrease the temperature on the easy press. 310-315 degrees for very short time spurts. Initially pressing for 5-7 seconds. Cooling and checking frequently at the lower temperature for shorter time periods is essential to ensure no melting of the pleather. a Cricut mat, towel, or pressing pillows are necessary for any elevated or uneven areas on the bag.
After adhering the personalized HTV names or monograms the canvas and pleather bags are done and ready to be used as super cute personalized gifts. Hope this step-by-step article was helpful and that you are now inspired to go out and create your own canvas and pleather bags. Change the design and the colors and make it uniquely yours.
